Prayer for the Week – Proper 27

Proper 27

O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

  1. Ray, thanks for these prayer. They are really solid and show us how to pray God’s Word. These prayers are like being firmly planted in God’s grace.

  2. Duane,

I’m glad you’ve found these prayers edifying. As I mentioned last year when I started posting these prayers, they are the contemporary collects from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Although The Episcopal Church’s orthodoxy may be questionable, their prayer book is still solid, reflecting Cranmer’s original magnum opus. My goal was to post the collects, one a week, starting last Advent and continuing through the church year. Two more to go!

    Soli Deo Gloria!

    Ray
